Coming back from baby Pearl’s photo shoot I couldn’t stop thinking how she winked at me as I tickled her arm with goodbye kisses, it was the cutest thing ever!! The way she would look deep into my lens with a great sense of curiosity, trying to make sense of what this big piece of a gadget that was staring right back at her is. She is as adorable as any other baby that I’ve come across but Pearl, she is special and precious as her name suggests, a rare gem from the ocean bundled in joy and laughter.
Oh baby Pearl, you are changing so fast day by day but I hope one day these images will remind you where all the magic and adventures began.
There’s nothing better like being in the warmth and security of your mama’s arms. She gives unconditional love, protection and a place where you call “home”.
I’ll end off with this sweet little face here, a little sleeping beauty dreaming about her days ahead and the happy life she truly desires.
This is a series I created one day walking in Nanjing Road, Shanghai. It was raining, the pedestrian walk was busy as people tried to weave their way out of the rain. I stopped at the pedestrian crossing and noticed how people were crossing over the black and white stripes, some with caution while some were more daring and bold.
In this series I changed my images into black and white because I wanted to focus on the movement and style of the steps. I chose a pedestrian crossing because I wanted the black represent the bad and white the good. We make decisions everyday, but how do we make decisions and cross those black and white “barriers”? What affects those decisions? Sometimes getting to the other side can be daunting and uncertain, but we still want to get to the other side because there are possibilities. Sometimes getting across doesn’t mean it’s all bad, we get to taste the good and then the bad and then good again. But everyone will approach this “challenge” of crossing to the other side differently, they might do so cautiously, bravely and sometimes even blindly…but we eventually make it to the other side as long as we persist and enjoy every moment of it, the black or the white moments.
“Crossing, we follow.”
“When you have forgotten your steps, you got friends to remind you.”
“Finding a perfect match you have to cross paths.”
“All weight on your toes, makes you feel like you can fly, almost.”
“Obstacles, overcome them, learn and grow from them because we can’t prevent them.”
(P.S Images taken with a Samsung phone)
They started off on the wrong note, a little misunderstanding perhaps. They thought they will never speak to each other again. But as it turns out, life can be surprising and unpredictable because they have decided to spend the rest of their lives together…
So let’s rewind to a many months back when they asked me to take their engagement photos…(yes, this is a very delayed post guys.. >.< )
They are one special couple, from opposite ends of the world yet they crossed paths in the Middle Kingdom and turned themselves to The King and Queen of their new world together. I couldn’t be happier when they asked me take their photos, they are such dear friends of mine and rare gems in this mega city of Shanghai.
We initially decided to head to Tianzifang, it’s one of their favourite places (mine too) but on a weekend it can get a bit crowded between the ally and lane houses. So instead I suggested a few spots nearby, a tiny park, a flowering tree that provided a nice backdrop and some stairs tucked in the alleys. (Yeah, I know I take people to the oddest of places )
Flower backdrops are just sooooooo pretty!!!
Just look at these love birds!!! Strawberries are one of Gava’s favourite fruits. :p
I love the way Gava looks at Beatka, with a ” baby” , “sweetie pie” he always brings a smile to her face. Beatka is always cooking up something scrumptious in the kitchen because she knows the best way to a man’s heart is FOOOOD!! Gava is always complimenting on Beatka’s cooking, “Oh man, it’s soooo good!!” is what he says every time after every bite of Beatka’s home cooked meals. They make such a good pair and there’s always tons of laughter with them.
I had a ball spending the afternoon with them, catching up like friends do. I wish them a life time of happiness and many treasured memories as future husband and wife.
Isn’t she lovely? Isn’t she beautiful..!!!
Beatka’s hunky man!!
Now go live happily ever after…!!!
